What is H.264 Technology?
H.264 is the next-generation video compression technology in the MPEG-4 series. Providing stunning video quality at substantially lower bit rates than previous standards this ultra-efficient technology provides excellent results across a broad range of bandwidths.
LILIN is applying unmodified H.264 compression in all new DVR's and their new range of IP equipment. Maintaining these standard versions of H.264 increases cross platform compatibility making it simpler to see video on handheld devices and different computer operating systems without the need for custom software.
H.264 also has some very real benefits for use in CCTV applications, it has predictive abilities that work with moving images – such as panning cameras, to maintain small file sizes despite the scene changing as the camera moves. It also includes deblocking filters that smooth edges and produce cleaner images.
H.264 is not limited to any specific resolutions and will continue to be used when CCTV resolutions increase to HD and Megapixel, so it's a great platform for the industry now and in the coming years.
